They cut a niche for the TV

Close quarters in architect Isabelle Bradshaw's San Francisco house meant no place for a television set in the master bedroom. The bed faced a fireplace wall and bathroom door, and furniture incorporated into wall units ate up the rest of the floor space.

When she drew plans to create a master suite, Bradshaw included a niche for a 19-inch television in a new wall between the enlarged bath and added-on study. The 25- by 30-inch niche begins 55 inches from the floor and punches 19 inches into a new closet. Its upper edge aligns with the top of the door frame next to it.
